Get a jump start on your college journey!

Why wait until fall? We are giving you the opportunity to take summer courses,
earn college credits, all at no cost to you!


How it Works:

Choose one online course or up to 2 face-to-face courses to receive 3-5 credit hours toward your degree! Classes are during Summer Session II: July 7-August 7, 2025.

Approximate Cost savings:
3 credit hours =  $1,400 saved
5 credit hours = $2,000 saved

Course Offerings

*All courses are held Monday through Thursday.

Online (Choose one)

  • Arts History I (ARTS 1303):
    • 1:00 p.m. - 3:05 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. - 6:05 p.m.
    • A lecture course in the history of painting, sculpture, architecture and other art forms from prehistoric times to the 14th century.
  • Intro to Oral Communication (COMS 1311):
    • 9:00 a.m. - 11:05 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 3:05 p.m.
    • Theory and practice of speech communication in interpersonal, small group and public speaking.
  • History of Rock and Roll (MUSI 2310):
    • 10:00 a.m. - 12:05 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • The history of rock music from its roots to its most recent trends, with the emphasis on rock as a musical style. Musical parameters (rhythm, harmony, melody, form, texture) as they apply to rock music. Thorough historical detail and social context for the various rock styles presented (e.g. discussions of race, class, gender, sexuality, politics, etc.). Open to both music and non-music majors.

Face-to-Face (Choose one or both)

  • Intro to Philosophy (PHIL 1301): 9:00 a.m. - 11:05 a.m.
    • Inquiries into the nature of the self, the universe and society as they relate to various definitions of reality, truth and value with readings from major works of classical and modern philosophers.
  • First-Year Seminar (UNIV 1201): 11:15 a.m. – 12:38 p.m.
    • A course designed to enhance the opportunities for success of first-year students through analysis, application, reflection, discussion, and interaction.

Engineering Majors: Face-to-Face (Must choose both)

  • College Algebra (MATH 1314): 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    • College-level topics in algebra including functions, graphs, variation, piecewise defined functions, equations of lines, elementary curve fitting, quadratic equations and functions, systems of linear and nonlinear equations, composition of functions, inverse functions, exponential and logarithmic functions and applications related to these topics. Includes one additional hour of math preparation.
  • Engineering as a Career (GEEN 1201): 2:00 p.m. - 3:25 p.m.
    • Overview of the history of engineering, its disciplines and professional practice with emphasis on social responsibility and ethical behavior. Introduces each engineering discipline using three-week modules. It also provides basic skills, tools and techniques applied to problem solving, teamwork and communication necessary for academic and professional success.
If you're an engineering student who picks this path, you will also be eligible for room and board with Javelina Housing at no cost to you!

Who is eligible to apply?

All incoming Fall 2025 freshmen who are 麻豆影视 residents and must attend a Hoggie Days session on or before June 17, 2025. 

What other items do I need to apply to Javelina Jumpstart?

Any dual credit transcripts, TSI assessment scores (if available), 2024-2025 FAFSA by June 30, 2025, and proof of your bacterial meningitis vaccination.

How will this be paid?

TAMUK will cover the tuition and mandatory fees by first applying Federal Pell Grant, if applicable. Any remaining tuition and mandatory fees will be covered by a Javelina Jumpstart award.
